RULES

For the purpose of the 2017 Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, The National Rules dated 1 January 2016 will apply. These rules can be downloaded from our website (www.nationalbrassbandchampionships.com).

 

REGISTRATION

Brass Band Players for bands based in England, the Scottish Registry for bands based in Scotland and the Welsh Registry for bands based in Wales.

Registration of all players is the responsibility of the band management.

 

ERRATA

In the event of errata being issued by the publisher or composer, it will appear on our website first. Please only refer to the official errata that appears on our website.

 

PERCUSSION

Percussion will once again be supplied by Ev-Entz - please keep referring to our website for details of the percussion supplied, as a list will be published (together with the specification of the instruments) when details become available. Please note: only the percussion instruments provided onstage must be used (bands cannot bring on their own instruments). Bands can however provide their own Side Drum and Stand, and must provide their own sticks and beaters. Percussion & Seating Plans, which will be emailed to all competing bands, are to be submitted at the Draw.

 

TICKETS

Tickets can only be purchased directly from the Royal Albert Hall Box Office, who can be contacted by visiting http://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets or by ringing 0207 589 8212.

 

ON CONTEST DAY

DRAW

The order of play will be decided by a Draw at 08:30 backstage in the Green Room. Access to the Draw can be gained through the Stage Door. Please note only one representative per band will be allowed at the Draw. Every representative is requested to be present five minutes before the Draw is scheduled to take place, and Draw Delegate tickets will be issued at the Draw. Mobile phones will not be allowed at the Draw.

Please let the Contest Controller know at the Draw if any of your band members need assistance.

 

COACH PARKING

Drop-off point at Kensington Gore.

 

ARRIVAL

In order to gain access to the Royal Albert Hall, all players must show their Performers Passes on arrival at Door 1. These passes will be posted out to you in due course (which unfortunately do not allow access to the auditorium).

 

DRESSING ROOMS

Dressing room allocation will be displayed on the notice board adjacent to the Green Room. Please ask your band to take note of the officials on the day. Also, please note that only band playing members plus conductor will be allowed backstage.

Neither Kapitol Promotions Ltd or the Royal Albert Hall accepts responsibility for bands' belongings or equipment.

 

STAGE

The Kapitol Promotions Stage Management Team will set the stage for your band. Please listen to their instructions, as this will help with the efficient running of the event.

 

NATIONAL ANTHEM

The band drawn number one will be required to play the National Anthem (God Save The Queen, No. 61 from "The Extended 120 Hymns for Brass Band").

 

CONTEST DAY TIMINGS

The outline of the contest day is as follows:

 

09:30               Band No. 1 in registration

09:55               Band No. 1 onstage

09:58               Band No. 1 performs the UK National Anthem

10:00               Contest commences

17:45               Band No. 20 comes offstage

18:00               Gala Concert

18:45               Results Ceremony

 

Time-permitting, there will be a short break for the adjudicators after band number 10. The Results Ceremony will immediately follow the Gala Concert, and the event is estimated to finish at approximately 19:30 - with the Royal Albert Hall to be cleared by 19:50.

 

COMPILATION OF RESULTS

This will be undertaken by Philip Morris (Contest Controller) and two contest management officials, and may be verified by a band representative appointed at the draw.

 

PRIZE PRESENTATION

A representative from each band is requested to report backstage before the conclusion of the Gala Concert for the Prize Presentation. The stage party will consist of the band representatives, the composer, the two other adjudicators, a representative from each of the sponsors, a Director of Kapitol Promotions, the Contest Controller, and the Honorary President of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The band representatives will be invited onstage for the presentation in alphabetical order. Representatives must be appropriately dressed for the presentation, in smart band-branded clothing.

 

PRIZES

The results will be announced as follows: 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, Best Instrumentalist and 1st. The contest prizes are detailed below:

BEST INSTRUMENTALIST      Trophy donated by Brass Band World Magazine

THIRD PRIZE                         Cheque for £1000.00 & the Denis Wick Trophy

SECOND PRIZE                      Cheque for £1500.00 & the NCC Trophy

FIRST PRIZE                           Cheque for £2000.00, the Challenge Trophy, the Stanley Boddington Memorial Trophy for winning conductor & pennant

Due to health & safety concerns raised by the Royal Albert Hall this year, there will only be a short time period of 15 minutes for the winning band to have official photographs taken onstage - after which, security staff from the Royal Albert Hall & Kapitol Promotions will ensure that the stage is cleared. In the event of your band winning, please ensure that all band members adhere to the above request.

 

ADJUDICATIONS

Adjudications can be collected from the Green Room approximately 15 minutes after the Results Ceremony, on production of the Draw Delegate card issued at the Draw.

 

RECORDINGS

Any form of recording a band's performance is not permitted in the Royal Albert Hall, unless approved in writing prior to the contest by the Contest Management. The use of flash photography is also not permitted. World of Sound will be recording each band's performance - please contact World of Sound directly on sound@worldofsound.uk.com or 01933 445430 for more information.
