Thoresby Colliery

History

Thoresby Colliery Band are one of the leading brass bands in the Midlands area. They were formed in 1948 and were originally based in the village of Edwinstowe, at the very heart of Sherwood Forest. Now the band rehearse from Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire with the support of the National Trust. The band have fulfilled many prestigious engagements, including memorial services for 9/11 and 7/7 in London and have been featured on TV shows for both BBC and ITV.

NATIONAL BRASS BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS of GREAT BRITAIN - FIRST SECTION CHAMPIONS,

BUTLINS MINEWORKERS CHAMPIONSHIPS - ENTERTAINMENT CHAMPIONS 2010

Last year the band has achieved three 2nd place finishes and placed 15th at the National Finals. This year sees the band qualify for the National Championships of Great Britain for the second year running.

Nationals Contesting History

8 outings at RAH. Last time not at RAH was in 2015, best result 6th (1975).

Other National Finals: S1 2000 (won), S2 1969 (won), S4 1951. After S4 Finals appearance in 1951, next Finals appearance was 19 years later (1970 Champ). After qualifying for RAH in 1975, had to wait until 1990 to qualify again.
