RAF Squadronaires to appear at RAH Gala Concert

Kapitol Promotions is delighted to announce that the RAF Squadronaires, or the "Squads" for short, will perform a Gala Concert before the Results Ceremony of the Championship Section Final at London's Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 6th October.

The RAF Squadronaires is regarded as one of the UK’s finest big bands, made up of full-time serving musicians in the Central Band of the RAF. Their appearance at the Royal Albert Hall on 6 October 2018 will see the ‘Squads’ join a plethora of stars who have featured in the Gala Concert of the Championships, including the late Derek Watkins and Don Lusher.

The programme is set to include timeless big band charts including Benny Goodman’s Sing, Sing, Sing and Lionel Hampton’s Flying Home. Familiar faces from the brass band movement will feature throughout the set as Squads’ lead trumpet Corporal Ben Godfrey and the band’s newest member Senior Aircraftman Jack Wilson perform trumpet duet Manhattan. Lead trombone Corporal Jonty Hill will also be featured in the beautiful ballad A Time for Love arranged by the great Sammy Nestico.

The band are no strangers to the Royal Albert Hall, having previously performed onstage alongside celebrity artists including Rod Stewart, Alexandra Burke, Russell Watson, Will Young, Alexander Armstrong and Pixie Lott. The RAF Squadronaires continue to be the only military ensemble to have performed at the famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, and more recently in April 2018 performed on stage at the Strathmore Music Centre, Washington DC with the Airmen of Note (USAF) in a double big band concert celebrating the centenary of the Royal Air Force.
