The Wallace Collection to appear at Cheltenham

The Kapitol Promotions organising team are delighted to announce that the world-renowned period instrument ensemble, The Wallace Collection, will be appearing at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (Sections 1-4) over the weekend of 17th-18th September. The ensemble will not only be performing in the auditorium before the Results Ceremonies of Section 2 (Saturday) and Section 4 (Sunday), but will be providing FREE workshops for players of all ages & abilities.

INTRODUCING: THE WALLACE COLLECTION

Led by John Wallace, renowned international trumpet soloist, leading arts educationalist, composer, conductor and former principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Wallace Collection brass ensemble has been reborn for the 21st Century.

Combining master musicians with a passion for promoting the diverse world of brass music, The Wallace Collection aims to inspire, entertain, develop, educate and transform this vital musical genre. The love for the complete spectrum of brass music from its origins, through its vibrant traditions, to ensuring its continuing vitality in our contemporary world, is the foundation of the ensemble’s credo. Through pursuing a well-focused strategy, The Wallace Collection will continue to combine live performance with interactive musical collaborations; bespoke product development; seminal recording projects; the publication of new works and transcriptions of significant historical milestones; and the provision of accessible educational outreach through presentations, master classes and demonstrations for all ages.

CHAMBER MUSIC AT THE ‘NATIONALS’

During the Championships on both Saturday and Sunday, The Wallace Collection will perform two short concerts. As a reflection of brass bands regularly using chamber music as a contrast in their concert programmes, and solo/ensemble playing having long been an important part of the brass band culture, The Wallace Collection will perform an entertaining cross-section of classics from the chamber music repertoire for brass. Using the instruments for which the music was originally written, the entertaining programme has emotional appeal, tickles the intellect and sounds surprisingly different on predominantly small-bore Victorian instruments.

COME AND PLAY!

Throughout the weekend, players of all abilities are welcome to join The Wallace Collection at their Come and Play workshop session. It’s relaxed, informal and an ideal chance to have some fun, whilst learning lots of practice and performance techniques on topics, from breathing and relaxation, to rhythm and playing in time. Just take your instrument along to participate in this great opportunity and discover the secrets behind developing your playing.

Saturday: 15:00-17:00

Sunday: 16:00-18:00
