For the purpose of the 2018 Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, The National Rules in their latest form will apply. These rules can be downloaded from our website (

Brass Band Players for bands based in England, the Scottish Registry for bands based in Scotland and the Welsh Registry for bands based in Wales. Registration of all players is the responsibility of the band management.

In the event of errata being issued by the publisher or composer, it will appear on this website ( Please only refer to the official errata that appears on our website.

Once Ev-Entz has confirmed details of the percussion supplied, together with the specification of the instruments, the Percussion List will be emailed out to all competing Band Secretaries and available on our website. Please note: only the percussion instruments provided onstage must be used (bands cannot bring on their own instruments). However, bands can provide their own Side Drum and Stand, and must provide their own sticks and beaters. A Percussion Plan has also been emailed to you, which is to be submitted at the draw (together with your Seating Plan).

Section 2 - David Hirst & Roger Webster | Section 4 - Gary Davies & John Maines

Section 3 - John Doyle & Roger Webster | Section 1 - David Hirst & John Maines

The order of play will be decided by a Draw held in the Crest Room. Access to the Draw can be gained through the Hall of Fame Bandsman’s Entrance, via the North Car Park.

The Draw times are stated on Page 1 of this Schedule. Please note that only ONE representative per band will be allowed at the Draw. Band representatives are requested to be present five minutes before the Draw is scheduled to take place, and individual Delegate Cards will be issued at the Draw.

Please let the Section Controller know at the Draw if any of your band members need assistance on & off stage.

This year we are able to offer bands rehearsal facilities at Cheltenham Racecourse. Two rehearsal rooms (Cottage Rake and Mill House, situated close to the Winged Ox Bar) are available at £50.00 an hour.

If your band wishes to use one of these rehearsal rooms, please let us know as soon as possible. As there are only two rooms available, these rooms will be on a "first come-first served" basis. The full £50.00 payment is also required at time of booking to secure the room.

Each rehearsal room is secure, and during your hire period the room will be for your band's use only. 30 chairs and music stands will be provided, but unfortunately no percussion instruments will be available. However, there is good vehicle access to these rehearsal rooms, so your band is welcome to provide and use your own percussion instruments as required. (Please bear in mind that your equipment load-in & out will be part of the 1-hour time slot).

Coaches to arrive in the North Car Park and cars in the South Car Park, and then through the Hall of Fame entrance for band players. (Audience members through the Main Foyer). A Kapitol Promotions representative will guide your band to the changing area, and bands drawn 1 to 6 should proceed to their changing room (in the Gold Cup Room) immediately after the Draw has taken place.

Prior to your performance, a Kapitol Promotions representative will escort your band to the Sovereign Room for a short warm-up period (music stands and balanced-action timpani will be provided). From there, you will be directed to the registration point. Bands are asked to vacate the dressing rooms as soon as they have played, taking their instruments and personal belongings with them.

The Kapitol Promotions Stage Management Team and Ev-Entz Percussion Crew will set the stage for your band, using the Percussion & Seating Plans submitted at the Draw. Please take note of their instructions, as this will help with the efficient running of the event.

The bands drawn number 1 in Section Two and Section Three will be required to play the National Anthem (No. 61 from "The Extended 120 Hymns for Brass Band").

Please note that whilst the starting times for Section Two and Three are accurate, the times for Sections Four and One will follow the results and prize presentations, and bands drawn number 1 must be available to play immediately following these presentations. The estimated times are below:

Section Two will end at 15:50 | Section Four will start at 16:00 and end at 21:45

Section Three will end at 16:00 | Section One will start at 16:15 and end at 22:30

(The Contest Controller may be able to give more accurate times on the day).

The compilation of the results will be undertaken by the Section Controller, a member of the contest management team, and may be verified by a band representative appointed at the Draw. The Results Ceremony will take place at the end of each Section, and results will be announced as: 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, Best Instrumentalist and Champion Band.

The band representatives will be invited onstage for the presentation in alphabetical order. Representatives must be appropriately dressed for the presentation, in smart band-branded clothing. The prizes for each section are detailed below:

3RD PRIZE - Cheque for £500.00 donated by Kapitol Promotions Ltd
