Delph

History

Delph Band is one of Saddleworth’s oldest bands having been formed in 1850. It has been an ever present part of the community throughout its history, playing for many major events and celebrations. They have appeared on T.V in Coronation Street and also in a national advertising campaign for one of the world’s largest mobile phone companies and of course were heavily involved in the film ‘Brassed Off’.

Over the years the band has achieved many contest successes, including North West Area and Butlins titles. However, notably in 1980, it made history by being the first Saddleworth band to win the coveted National Championship of Great Britain. They are also the only Saddleworth band to ever win it twice, when they were awarded the title again in 2010, remarkably with the same conductor and many of the same players!

The band are very proud to have qualified and to represent the North West Region at the finals in Cheltenham.  They are so excited to have the opportunity to compete for a third national title.

First Nationals appearance since winning Section 3 in 2010. Only qualified four times in their history, but impressively won twice (S3 2010 and S4 1980) - 50% win record! Achieved Nationals qualification for the first time in 1979, then 1980 (S4, won), but had to wait 14 years to qualify for Nationals again 1994 (S3) then another 16 years to qualify again (S3 2010). First ever appearance at S2.
