Bournemouth Concert

History

Based in a sunny sea-side town, Bournemouth Concert Brass has existed for nearly 100 years, settling into its current name in 1975. As an active contesting band, Bournemouth has been a regular fixture at national finals in the past 17 years including the championship section (2005, 2012) and first section (2004,2010, 2011). A first-time appearance at the Bugle contest saw the band success, winning the march section test piece. The bass and trombone section, in particular, stood out with further success as best sections at the SCABA contest in October 2016 and Wessex contest the following December.

The band gives a variety of concerts throughout the year, including many in the historic town of Christchurch. The band plays to probably its largest audience as the guests of Bournemouth University at their graduation ceremony, taking part in 8 individual ceremonies over four days.

In 2012 the band was given an opportunity to test its marching skills, being invited to take part in a massed bands event at the Sonderborg Ringriderfest (Denmark) under the leadership of Major David Barringer. Further, invites for the following two years attest to the hard work put in by players and MD alike.

The band also has a close association with MG Muhlau (Switzerland) enjoying many exchange visits over the past five years. In 2017 a 10-piece from BCB had the privilege of joining MG Muhlau Band for their 100-year anniversary concert.

First Nationals appearance since 2012 (Champ). Most recent appearance at the S1 Final was 2011, where the band achieved its highest ever Nationals placing of 2nd. Total of 10 previous Nationals appearances.
